- Usage Data: How you interact with our platform, features used, and time spent.

3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain our platform
- Calculate and track rent payments, arrears, and due dates
- Provide information about potential notice eligibility based on the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 (this is informational only, not legal advice)
- Process and analyze receipts for tax deduction tracking
- Conduct property inspections and Healthy Homes compliance assessments
- Send you transactional email notifications
- Improve and personalize your experience

4. AI and Automated Processing
Rentally uses artificial intelligence to enhance certain features:
- Receipt Scanning (Anthropic Claude): We use AI to extract information from uploaded receipts and documents for tax tracking. This processing is automated but you can manually review and edit all extracted data.
- Behavior Analysis (Google Gemini): Optionally, AI may assist in categorizing tenant behavior notes to suggest appropriate legal notices. All legal date calculations are performed by deterministic code, not AI.
Important: AI-generated suggestions regarding legal notices are for informational purposes only. You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any information and seeking professional legal advice before taking action.
You have the right to request human review of any AI-assisted decisions that significantly affect you.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate our platform:
- Supabase: Database hosting and user authentication (data stored in secure cloud infrastructure).
- Stripe: Payment processing for subscriptions. We do not store your full credit card details.
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Document and receipt analysis.
- Google (Gemini AI): Optional behavior categorization.
- Resend: Transactional email delivery.
Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing their use of your data.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations (such as tax record keeping requirements), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Tax-related records may be retained for up to 7 years in accordance with New Zealand Inland Revenue requirements.
